Abandoned stories

I, just like so many others - went through a lot of phases in terms of different subjects and styles, when I first picked up a film camera (it was back in the summer of 2021, when YouTube really started to push film photographers channels - Analog photography blew me away instantly, I was immediately hooked). Some phases have passed by quickly, whilst others have lingered around ever since. Going through these phases, I learned something new each time, picked up ways to do things differently, and they helped me become the photographer I am today.

I always had an interest in cars, believe it or not… even though I still haven’t got a license, so it came quite naturally for me when I started shooting film, that I was drawn to photographing cars. Especially older models, the sweet spot for me is the 80s and 90s models. They remind me of the models I saw on posters, in ads and dreamt about when I was a kid. Basically the models found in the old Top Trumps cards, from that time (I got to track down a couple of old Top Trumps decks).

To this day, I still can’t pass a great looking car, without taking a few photos - if I got a camera on me. All these car photos I collected, started to pile up. Back in March 2023, I started to gather some of them into a zine (a self-published magazine, that often focus on one subject), and made this mock-up of how it would look, with a small batch of the photos I collected at the time.

The subject of my zine, quickly became forgotten/broken cars. Cars filled with stories and adventures, dreams now rusting and falling into pieces - abandoned.

All the shots below were shot on my trusted Canon A1, on different film stocks (a mixture of gold, ultramax, portra 160, portra 400 and tmax 100)

the back and front of the zine

All the photos featured in my mock-up zine were shot in, around, and on the outskirts of my hometowns Aalborg and Nørresundby.

I know there are some cars that appear multiple times (though with different angles, and shot on different film stocks), and some photos are definitely way better than others, but again this was just a mock-up of my idea at the time.
